Our Vision

To educate and organize students and young people and to play a helpful and principled role in the movement for social justice. Within and throughout this struggle, we will articulate and defend the idea that true human liberation is impossible under capitalism. We seek social change which extends democracy into all aspects of life -- social, political and economic. This is the struggle for democratic socialism. Our vision of socialism is profoundly democratic, feminist, and anti-racist.For more info, see YDSA National's Webiste.

Values at the Heart of this Vision

We believe that our community thrives on collaboration, both internally and with other communities on campusWe believe that a socialist future must be integrated with justice for other oppressed peoples, including those impacted by racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism and ableismWe believe that efficiency requires the work of more than one individual, and that there is strength in numbersWe believe our organization gains strength from the diversity of leftist viewpoints expressed withinWe believe that our efforts are most effective when supported by an understanding of the theoretical and practical histories of other movementsWe believe that through community we are able to oppose right-wing and fascist ideologies

Practices that Express this Vision

We make organizational relationships a priority by responding to requests for collaboration and seeking out that collaboration when appropriateWe intentionally focus on making our space welcoming for new members by clearly communicating who we are and creating avenues for collaboration that are socially orientedWe focus on efficiency by regularly calling for support from our membership and delegating when appropriateWe avoid class reductionism by collaborating with identity groups and hosting meaningful discussion on issues beyond classWe prioritize democratic decision making by encouraging all members to share their opinions on the issues facing our chapterWe encourage a deeper level of socialist thinking and praxis among our members through intentional discussion of current and historic socialist movements, actions, and thinkersWe counter conservative, fascist ideology on campus through the intentional creation of community that reduces the perceived power of these people on campusWe focus on efficacy by intentionally creating campaigns that are reasonable and attainable for our chapter with its current power level and capacity restrictions
